InterLangua,
A new learning model
04.04.08 -
I’m stepping out in the flat* world, learning to speak better Spanish in a new, exhilarating way through Interlangua. Interlangua is a young company with an innovative approach to language learning.
They use enterprise-level communications technology and educated, experienced tutors who live and work in Guatemala. They provide an unexpectedly delightful one-on-one learning experience in conference sessions enabled with full motion video-- 24 frames per second in a right-sized window**-- and beautiful audio clarity.
The InterLangua tutors make conversation fun and interesting. I’m improving. I may even be able to inch my way over the barrier of irregular verbs.
What makes it delightful
Interlangua president and tech guy Peter Spevacek explains, “When you create a CIF size window synchronized with audio on a close-up monitor, the human brain fires off a million signals all of which say “I can communicate.”
Spevacek reports, “I have personally set up Interlangua’s initial sessions hundreds of times. When the initial session starts, the immediate reaction in almost every case is laughter from the new user. Last week I set one up with a very tough network administrator who was desperate to defend his network against all new things.
The poor guy laughed so hard when he realized he was talking naturally to a young man in Guatemala through this CIF video and audio window. This was a guy who had installed hundreds of thousands of dollars of video conferencing equipment. Most of which never was used.”***
